Since opening the doors in May, WHA Sunshine Coast has been supporting businesses across one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions with reliable occupational health services. The clinic was established to provide even more access to workforce health medical services for local employers, with more appointment available in the area, improved turnaround times and expanding WHA’s Sunshine Coast footprint.

Our People at WHA Sunshine Coast

A huge part of WHA’s success is our people. To be able to combine clinical expertise and knowledge with a warm welcoming environment is an advantage in the process driven service industry of occupational health. And that is where Krystell comes in.

Leading the WHA Sunshine Coast clinic is Krystell Jeavons, who joined WHA in May to set up this new clinic. After spending a decade working in one of healthcare’s most demanding environments, Krystell was looking for a new challenge that would allow her to continue using her clinical skills while achieving a better work-life balance.

“I was a critical care nurse for 10 years and wanted to pursue a different pathway in the medical field that offered me stability and kept me using my clinical knowledge in a different setting, without the stress and shift work that hospital work incorporates,” she says.

Occupational health provides an opportunity to continue making a meaningful impact on people’s lives while focusing on prevention, workplace wellbeing and supporting businesses to build safer, healthier workforces.

For Krystell, no two days are ever the same. A typical day involves welcoming a wide range of candidates through the clinic doors, conducting medical and physical assessments, collecting data and providing advice where appropriate.

“Meeting new faces, conducting thorough medical and physical assessments and offering advice based on the data collected is what I enjoy most,” she says.

It’s this variety that keeps every day interesting. From apprentices beginning their very first job through to more experienced workers changing industries or returning to work, every assessment represents another person’s career and often new opportunities. One of Krystell’s favourite parts of the role is seeing the excitement candidates bring with them.

“I enjoy meeting lots of enthusiastic people who are trying to gain entry into new or existing workforces, all different ages, genders and professional pathways,” she says.

Being part of that journey, even for a single appointment, is something she finds incredibly rewarding. Behind every workforce medical is a person taking the next step in their career, and Krystell understands the importance of making that experience as smooth, professional and welcoming as possible. Her background in critical care has equipped her with strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail and the ability to make people feel at ease, qualities that continue to benefit every candidate who visits the Sunshine Coast clinic.

Outside of work, Krystell prefers to swap screens for stories. While many people unwind with the latest Netflix series, she’s much more likely to be found with a good book, sounds relaxing to me!
